Emotional Release Counselling (ERC): what are the benefits?

ERC can support emotional healing and personal development by facilitating harmony with all parts of ourselves.This often results in improved self-esteem, behaviour and mood patterns.

What is Emotional Release Counselling?
ERC is a hands-on, Expressive counselling-and psychotherapy modality that has been in use for well over 50 years .

Why use this form of Therapy?
Most of us have learnt to fear emotions and hide unpleasant feelings. However, these negative feelings and emotions can be active in the unconscious.

Positive qualities, feelings and memories are also stored in the unconscious and can become inactive, or overshadowed by unrecognised, negative imprints.

The body, the mind and feelings work as a whole. What we have not allowed ourselves to feel or express, can become stuck.

This can cause muscular tension, illness, behavior-problems, and mood-disturbance.
Or just an overall feeling of being stuck!

The good news is that, within our psyche, we have a natural inner healing force that just needs the right opportunity to get to work.

What happens in ERC Counselling sessions?

The Therapist aims to create safe conditions to work in the following ways:

  • Sand-tray and Symbol work, using figurines that symbolise aspects of our inner and outer world and help us to discover hidden parts of ourselves
  • Support to increase awareness and release of embodied beliefs, feelings and emotions
  • Increase Self-Compassion and Empowerment
  • Relaxation, Mindfulness and Meditation
